John has always been surrounded by music. He is the youngest in his family of four children. While growing up his two bothers and a sister who seemed to play music continually in the house, whether it was the Beatles, the Hollies, The Who, or various folk and country stars.  John’s father played in a country band and bought him a bass guitar so he could try and emulate his favourite bass player, Andy Fraser of Free.

Finding out that playing bass was harder than it looks, John continued his enjoyment of music listening to bands as varied as Humble Pie, Yes, Genesis, Led Zeppelin but of course with a grounding in Rock ‘n’ Roll. He has always enjoyed Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis and just about everything he could listen to in the rockabilly and Rock ‘n’ Roll vein. This was at the time when Glam Rock filled the charts!

Over the years John has played with many bands both in the UK and in New Zealand, playing a variety of genres from heavy rock to country music.

Most recently John has played at the Country Rock Festival in the Bay of Islands and the Hokianga Country Festival, in both bands and a duo. He has played at these festivals since 2013.

John has always wanted to put together a Rock ‘n’ Roll band and advertised to see how much interest there was. Luckily, he found some other like-minded musicians and has enjoyed the path Cadillac Junction has taken. He is enthusiastic to bring the sounds of the 50’s and 60’s to the music fans of this era!
